Tonybet awards golden World Cup card prize to Canada player
The win closes out Tonybet’s three-tier World Cup promotion, which has also produced winners in Ireland and Canada.
Card-collection mechanics tied to a tournament’s progression have become a familiar retention tool for sportsbooks during major sporting events. Tonybet said on 21 July 2026 that a player in Laurier-Station, Canada had claimed the golden card, the last of the promotion’s three grand prizes.
Three grand prizes claimed across the tournament
Tonybet’s World Cup Card Collection ran across 51 cards: 48 digital cards, one for each participating World Cup nation, plus three unique cards in gold, silver and bronze.
The bronze card, on offer through the group stage, had previously been discovered by a customer in Saint-Colomban, Canada, while the silver card, which came into play during the knockout rounds up to the quarter-finals, was won by a player in County Kildare, Ireland.
The golden card, which became available for the semi-final, third-place play-off and final, has now been claimed by a player in Laurier-Station, Canada, worth $20,000 CAD and the largest of the collection’s three grand prizes.
Tonybet Head of Product Kiryl Liudvikevich said:
‘You can plan a campaign down to the last detail, but you can’t plan what the World Cup brings. Seeing players complete their collections and discovering who would uncover each prize was the most rewarding part of the campaign.’
Liudvikevich added that the campaign was designed to be a fun addition to the tournament, enjoyed responsibly and within players’ own limits.
Wider context: Tonybet’s expanding Canadian footprint
The prize announcement comes as Tonybet builds out its regulated presence in Canada. The operator was among those live when Alberta’s regulated iGaming market opened on 13 July 2026, having secured a licence from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission that adds to its existing Ontario and Kahnawake licences.
The collection remains open until 31 July for players finishing their sets and spending their coins, even with the grand prizes gone.
